1996 Alden 45
- Location:
Falmouth
Foreside, ME Notes: Affinity is number 7 of the 8 Alden 43/45 design built by Alden from 1992 to 1998. The 45s are outstandingly beautiful boats. She sails fast and flat with a modern bulb-keel underbody and composite structure imitated by later revisions of upmarket production and custom designs. Affinity's unique features include new 2024 GMT carbon-fiber spar and Navtec rod rigging, and a GMT update to her Leisure Furl in-boom furling system. She represents a high-point of classic 20th century lines and proportions, built to the highest standards. The composite technologies developed by Alden Yachts with their suppliers of resins and materials have been widely adopted by the entire marine industry. Affinity's hull, decks and gelcoat are in near-perfect condition, as is the varnished teak trim. Cabin layout and joinerwork below are outstanding. The combination of form, function and durability at Affinity's level is now a rarity even in custom yachts at multiples of this price. The boat has been lightly used, maintained to very high standards, and presents as being substantially new. About 1560 hours on a strong Westerbeke 63 Diesel. A variety of sails in excellent condition, including a fully battened in-boom furling main and a new radial 95% furling jib for ease of sail handling. I have owned Affinity for 8 years. With advancing time, I hope the affinity I have felt towards the boat and the pleasure we have had sailing her will be experienced for years to come by another appreciative owner.
